FESTIVAL ART&DESIGN 2023/2024 IM_MATERIAL,

40X40 EXHIBITION, 15.01.2024

International Scientific Conference, 16.01.2024

POLAND 2024

The premiere international exhibition "40x40", will visit Poland for the first time. It was created especially for the ART&DESIGN Festival 2023/2024 IM_MATERIAL as a result of the cooperation of the Academic Design Center with the organizers of A' Design Award and Competition Onur Mustak Cobanli, and Maryam Karbalaei and multiple winner, juror of the above competition Izabela Jurczyk, lecturer at the Institute of Graphic Design at the Wladyslaw Strzeminski Academy of Art in Lodz.

The curators of the Polish edition of the "40x40" exhibition are Izabela Jurczyk and Magdalena Komborska - Łączna. Selecting from more than 100 submitted, awarded works in the A' Design Award and Competition for 2023, the curators invited outstanding representatives of design and art from 10 countries around the world.

The themes of the works of designers of architecture, visual communication, medical illustrators, 3D jewelry, fashion designers, product, ceramics respond to the to the motto IM_MATERIAL in two ways. On the one hand, the creator(s) invite the viewer into a technicized world, the result of a technological boom, participating in the digital transformation of AI, and skillfully observed with a biological eye. The designer(s) make the observer immerse himself in the reality of objects with high visual aesthetics or sensually ideal. They can be just a form, a material but also a total material model-existence.

The second part of the exhibition talks about the structures of matter. It stems from looking at and searching for those foci in design and art that are new connections, forms, non-obvious matter. They are modeled on internal organic processes-the death grip of the T-lymphocyte, or physical laws-recrystallization, or tracing the migration of nanoparticles in the spherical body of the human eye. Creators observe microstructure and its non-material sources. They confront with each other images/objects created from the processes of destruction and reconstruction of observed realities.

The conference lectures consist of a collection of individual speeches by invited theorists, designers. The lectures within the leading theme of IM_MATERIAL will be given by art historian and curator Boguslaw Deptuła, visual communication designer PhD Izabela Jurczyk, representative and coordinator of A'Design Award and Competition Maryam Karbalaei, lecturer, artist, animator PhD Aurelia Mandziuk Zajączkowska, prof. of the university, jewelry designer PhD Olga Podfiipska-Krysińska, prof. of the university, video game architect and designer PhD Rafał Szrajber .The title IM_MATERIAL will be their reflection towards love, a sense of intimacy, a tender message, i.e. creative emotions. These are what promises new codes of communication with the help of design and artifacts. The lectures on light as a carrier of matter and the undertaken peculiar research of the history of design will expand the perception of current phenomena, icons of current times, seek a new perspective of art- and design-world. The title IM_MATERIAL will be their reflection towards love, a sense of intimacy, tender communication, i.e. creative emotions. It is these that herald new codes of communication with the help of design and artifacts. The lectures on light as a carrier of matter and the undertaken peculiar research of the history of design will expand the perception of current phenomena, icons of current times, seek a new perspective of art- and design-world.

The origin of the Matter of the Universe is a key issue that everyone is undeniably asking questions about. Not everyone, and among them, for example, Aristotle, claimed that there was such an origin of matter. The theses proving about the moments of the Great Beginning have been posed repeatedly, and the theory has sometimes invoked facts that lie beyond the limit of human observation. Designers and artists take a similar position going far beyond oculocentrism. This is the need and possibility of an existential experience of design and art in times of advanced technicization. It is reflected in Heidegger's notion of Stoß. It is translated as a thrust inflicted (on the dedicated viewer) by the work, (...). The work of art is not self-contained matter. Beuys' atomistic postulate, states that man's spiritual interior animates matter, creates the real.

The period of transformation and creation of non-matter continues (...), and with it the structure of the World evolves.
